sg fleet fleetlive: SG Fleet UK team on their exhibition stand at Fleet & Mobility Live 2026, with Novalease and vehicle leasing displays behind them

Fleet & Mobility Live 2026 took the UK fleet sector to the NEC in Birmingham on the 6th and 7th of October. Most of the conversations we saw and took part in on the show floor were about delivery rather than ambition.

We thought it’d be handy for businesses if we picked out the themes that matter most for fleet, procurement, HR and finance teams. So here’s our take on the event and what it means for your fleet management and leasing strategy and your EV transition plan over the next 12 months.

At a glance:

  • Decarbonisation led the agenda, and the question has shifted from whether to electrify to how.
  • New depot charging hardware is making electric van fleet rollouts easier to scale.
  • AI is arriving in everyday fleet admin, but it depends on clean, joined-up data.
  • Risk, driver behaviour and cost control still decide whether a fleet budget holds.
  • Salary sacrifice electric cars are now a shared job for fleet, HR and reward teams.

Setting the scene at Fleet & Mobility Live 2026

Fleet News organised the show and expected more than 2,000 fleet decision-makers over the two days. Over 1,300 fleet professionals attended on day one alone.

The organiser’s 2026 manufacturer line-up runs to more than 30 brands, including BMW, BYD, Audi, Cupra and Lexus.

Its headline figures cite 100+ exhibitors and 60+ speakers. Sessions ran across two insights theatres and a dedicated HR and procurement theatre. The event was billed as sales-pitch free, with many sessions led by working fleet managers.

Fleet management trends 2026: five themes from the show

Fleet decarbonisation has become more of a delivery question.

Day one panels tackled electrification alongside risk, procurement and budgeting. In most organisations, the debate is now about sequencing.

Our view: Over the next year, it’s a good idea to map every vehicle against its lease end date, daily mileage and charging access. Then replace vehicles in that order so you avoid paying to end contracts early.

This is how eStart works. It plans the transition around existing lease end dates and which sites need enabling first. Drivers new to EVs will also find our guide to understanding electric vehicles useful.

Charging kit built for the electric van fleet

Humax EV Charging launched its MX PRO 22kW commercial charger at the show. It starts charging automatically when a recognised vehicle plugs in. Its Plug & Charge feature (the ISO 15118-2 standard) identifies vehicles without an app or RFID card, and it works on single or three-phase supplies.

Our view: For vans that return to base each night, depot charging usually makes the business decision pretty simple. Check your site’s electrical capacity before ordering vehicles, and choose open, expandable hardware so the depot can grow with the fleet.

AI and data move into the back office.

AI was on the day two seminar programme alongside fleet admin, budgets and procurement. Caura launched a fleet operating system at the event.

Our view: AI is only as good as the data it reads, so before you buy anything, bring fuel, maintenance, mileage and incident records into one place. Our Fleetintelligence portal does this as part of our fleet management service, giving you clear reports to act on.

Risk, driver behaviour and cost control

Risk management and driver behaviour sat alongside budgets on the day two agenda. The programme also covered managing vehicle wear and tear.

Our view: Damage charges and incidents are where budgets usually leak. Link your telematics data to targeted driver coaching, and try to brief drivers on return standards well before each lease ends.

Salary sacrifice: electric cars need HR and fleet together.

Employee experience was a core show theme, with salary sacrifice and mobility benefits presented as tools for attracting and keeping staff.

Our view: HR, reward and finance should own this decision alongside fleet. Electric cars carry far lower company car tax than petrol or diesel equivalents. Model the savings over the full agreement term with our tax calculator. Then choose between an off-balance-sheet scheme (Novalease) and one you contract directly (Salarylease). FAQs

What should fleet managers do after Fleet & Mobility Live 2026?

Start by turning the show’s themes into a 12-month plan. Map each vehicle’s lease end date against its EV suitability and charging access. Make sure your fleet data sits in one place before you invest in AI tools. Bring HR and finance into any salary sacrifice decision early, so the scheme is modelled over its full term.

What were the main topics at Fleet & Mobility Live 2026?

Fleet decarbonisation, EV charging, AI, risk management, driver behaviour, procurement and budgeting led the programme. The agenda also covered the growing role of fleet administrators and vehicle wear and tear.

Are salary sacrifice electric cars still worth offering?

For many employers, yes. Electric cars attract much lower company car tax than petrol or diesel models, and employees pay from gross salary. The right scheme depends on your VAT position, admin capacity and appetite for risk.
