Fleet leaders put the Mitsubishi Triton to the test on K'gari

By SG Fleet | 19 October 2026

When it comes to selecting fleet vehicles, there's only so much that can be learned from a specification sheet, a brochure or a short drive around suburban streets.

To help gain a deeper understanding of vehicle performance in real-world conditions, SG Fleet recently partnered with Mitsubishi Motors Australia to bring together a group of valued customers and industry contacts for a four-day experience on K'gari. Combining industry discussion, networking and two dedicated days behind the wheel, the experience was designed to explore the capabilities of the Mitsubishi Triton range while creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about the evolving needs of modern fleets.

With access to a range of Triton models, attendees had the opportunity to compare vehicle variants firsthand across beach runs, inland sand tracks, steep climbs, and challenging off-road terrain. The experience provided a practical understanding of how the vehicles perform beyond the confines of a traditional test drive.

As attendees quickly discovered, K'gari offered the perfect environment to put the Triton through its paces.

A real-world understanding of capability

For many attendees, the most valuable aspect of the experience was the opportunity to assess the vehicles in conditions similar to those faced by many fleets every day.

"We use vehicles in an off-road environment, so being able to test the Triton in real conditions was very valuable."

Greg Burke, Asset and Fleet Manager, Enaex

Attendees were able to experience the vehicle's performance across varying surfaces and terrains while gaining confidence in its capability and technology.

For Danielle Sayward, Fleet Project Officer at Loram, the experience provided a greater appreciation of the engineering behind the Triton range.

"Driving the Triton through soft sand, water crossings, steep and uneven terrain, and over rocks and boulders provided a genuine understanding of how the vehicle responds when it is being pushed outside normal driving conditions."

Danielle Sayward, Fleet Project Officer, Loram

The ability to switch between vehicles throughout the drive also allowed attendees to compare models and better understand where each variant could fit within their fleet.

"The differences between the various Triton models, including ride, performance and interior features, became much clearer when experiencing them in sand and off-road conditions."

Neal Rodda, Procurement Specialist, Jellinbah Mining

The Triton's comfort, technology and refinement were also praised, with many commenting on how the vehicle has evolved in its latest generation.

"The Triton has always been competent off-road, but it is now much more of a complete package."

More than a vehicle demonstration

While vehicle evaluation was a key component, the event was equally focused on bringing together fleet professionals, industry experts and leaders from both SG Fleet and Mitsubishi.

Throughout the four days, attendees discussed fleet management trends, leasing solutions, technology, vehicle procurement and the evolving challenges facing organisations managing complex vehicle fleets.

The opportunity to connect with peers from different industries proved particularly valuable, allowing participants to share experiences, compare approaches to fleet management, and gain insights that are difficult to achieve through more traditional industry events.

For Chris Sullivan, Head of Asset Management at Independence Australia, the experience reinforced just how strategic fleet management has become.

"Talking candidly with other fleet professionals about how they're structuring their own fleets, managing cost pressures and navigating policy challenges gave me practical perspective I wouldn't get from a report or a webinar."

Chris Sullivan, Head of Asset Management, Independence Australia

The relaxed environment also created opportunities for more genuine conversations with both SG Fleet and Mitsubishi teams, helping attendees move beyond formal presentations and explore the challenges and opportunities unique to their organisations.

Whether during presentations, vehicle changeovers, meals or time spent exploring the island, discussions continued well beyond the scheduled agenda, creating valuable opportunities for connection and collaboration.

Experience that builds confidence

One of the strongest themes to emerge from the event was the value of getting beyond the brochure and experiencing a vehicle in the environment for which it was designed.

For organisations considering future fleet investments, the ability to evaluate performance, technology, comfort and capability in authentic conditions delivered insights that would be difficult to achieve through conventional demonstrations.

As Chris Sullivan reflected:

"Being able to put the Triton through its paces on K'gari gave me a far more honest read on its capability than any brochure or showroom visit could."

Chris Sullivan, Head of Asset Management, Independence Australia

For Kamil Hawryszczuk, Commercial Manager - Fleet and Procurement at Rema Tip Top Australia, the value came from the combination of practical vehicle testing, industry knowledge sharing and relationship building.

"The opportunity to experience the Mitsubishi Triton firsthand in real-world conditions on K'gari was fantastic, and the combination of driving, industry insights and networking made the experience both enjoyable and genuinely valuable."

Kamil Hawryszczuk, Commercial Manager - Fleet and Procurement, Rema Tip Top Australia

By bringing together customers, industry experts, and vehicle specialists, the experience demonstrated the value of combining practical vehicle evaluation with meaningful industry discussion.

As fleet requirements continue to evolve, opportunities to learn from peers, engage directly with partners and test vehicles in real-world conditions remain an important part of making informed fleet decisions with confidence.

What impressed me most was SG Fleet's genuine interest in understanding our specific requirements, rather than presenting a one-size-fits-all pitch.

The upgraded suspension makes a huge difference. To be honest, 90% of the drive wasn't much of a challenge for the Triton.

You can't get much better than K'gari for a real-world test. No manicured test tracks and no limited time behind the wheel.

The experience gave me a much greater appreciation of the capability and technology built into the 4x4 range of vehicles.
