What you missed: Key insights from our exclusive Toyota webinar
Toyota has been part of Australian driveways for decades, but with electrification, new technologies and an expanding vehicle range, there's never been more to discuss.
Recently, SG Fleet partnered with Kenneth Valenton, Senior Product Knowledge Facilitator at Toyota, to give customers an exclusive look at the future of the brand, emerging vehicle technologies and what drivers should consider when choosing their next vehicle through novated leasing.
If you couldn't join us live, here are some of the key takeaways from the session.
Why Toyota continues to resonate with Australian drivers
One of the standout discussions explored Toyota's long-standing relationship with Australia and why the brand continues to earn the trust of drivers nationwide.
Kenneth shared the story of Toyota's involvement in the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, where early LandCruisers were put to the test in some of Australia's harshest conditions.
According to Kenneth, that commitment to durability and continuous improvement still influences Toyota today.
"Cars can get you anywhere, but generally Toyotas can get you back home nice and safe."
The discussion highlighted how reliability, support networks and long-term ownership remain central to Toyota's approach.
Why Toyota isn't taking a one-size-fits-all approach to EVs
With many manufacturers focusing exclusively on battery electric vehicles, attendees were interested to hear Toyota's perspective on the transition to lower-emission motoring.
Toyota's approach centres on offering a range of technologies, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles, recognising that every driver's needs are different.
As Kenneth explained:
"Each person has their own unique life, their own unique circumstances, the way they work, the way they live, the way they have fun."
He also reinforced that:
"It's not a one-size-fits-all approach, horses for courses as they say."
For customers considering a novated lease, the key takeaway was simple: choose the vehicle that suits your lifestyle, driving habits and future plans.
Battery longevity: What drivers need to know
Battery performance remains one of the most common questions among people considering an electrified vehicle.
Kenneth provided a behind-the-scenes look at Toyota's battery development and testing processes, explaining that battery technology has been evolving for decades since the launch of the Prius.
One of the most interesting insights was Toyota's internal target of retaining more than 90% battery capacity after 10 years of simulated use.
Kenneth also explained how Toyota continuously monitors battery health at multiple levels, from individual battery cells through to the battery pack as a whole, helping maximise long-term performance.
For those concerned about durability, his message was straightforward:
"At the end of the day, it's still a Toyota."
New models generating excitement
The session also gave attendees an overview of several exciting additions to Toyota's range.
Highlights included:
- The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, capable of around 100km of electric driving before switching to Toyota's hybrid system.
- The significantly updated bZ4X electric SUV, now offering up to 591km of range in front-wheel-drive configuration.
- The upcoming bZ4X Touring, offering increased cargo space and adventure-focused features.
- A fully electric C-HR expected to join Toyota's lineup in the future.
The discussion emphasized the growing range of electrified vehicles available to Australian drivers and the increasing choice available through novated leasing.
Looking ahead
While Toyota fans were eager to hear about future products, Kenneth also shared insights into ongoing developments in performance hybrid technology, battery innovation and alternative fuel solutions, including hydrogen technology.
His message was clear: Toyota continues to invest in multiple technologies while remaining focused on delivering vehicles that suit a variety of customer needs.
