Meet Amelia Atkins

General Manager, Marketing

Amelia Atkins has been with the SG Fleet Group for over eight years, beginning her journey with the business through the acquisition of nlc Pty Ltd. After returning from backpacking overseas, she was eager to re-enter the workforce.

Although she had studied marketing, her first corporate role was one within the SG Fleet Group, in accounting and allocations. This position, while outside her passion, proved foundational in her understanding of the business and the novated leasing industry.

Throughout her career at SG Fleet, Amelia has embraced a variety of roles across the organisation, each one contributing to her growth and leadership. From Relationship Management to Field Marketing, Campaign Marketing, and now as General Manager of Marketing, her journey reflects both adaptability and ambition.

Amelia credits SG Fleet for supporting her career progression and is proud to now lead the marketing function. Her story is one of resilience, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the opportunities that have shaped her path back to her true passion.

Discover how Amelia became involved with the Women’s Network at SG Fleet and what she’s excited to focus on in the year ahead.

Your involvement with the Women’s Network

What inspired you to become a Chair of the Women’s Network?

Last year, I was really impressed by all the amazing work the network was doing. While I was more of a back-seat attendee at the time, this year I wanted to get more involved and take a more hands-on approach.

I saw an opportunity to bring my marketing skills into the network to help promote and celebrate the incredible work of women throughout the business. It felt like the right time to step up and give back to a community that’s doing such meaningful work.

What does the Women’s Network mean to you personally?

The Women’s Network is incredibly important to me. Being a strong, independent woman has always been part of my identity (or at least I like to think so!). I grew up with two older brothers who always encouraged me to trust my instincts. They’d remind me that men (generally speaking) don’t second-guess themselves or soften their language with “just checking” or “just following up” in emails, they say what they mean and ask for what they want. They knew the workforce was skewed toward men and gave me the confidence to enter it knowing my value and what I had to offer.

That said, I still struggle with this daily. And that’s why the Women’s Network matters so much. It reminds me that we have each other, to lean on, to talk to, and to share experiences with. Not all experiences are negative - we work in an incredibly diverse and supportive organisation that I’m proud to be part of, but when imposter syndrome creeps in, or we start to overthink things (as women often do), it’s comforting to know we’re not alone. That’s what really matters.

What are some of the key initiatives or moments you’re most proud of so far?

There are so many initiatives the network has delivered, and I’m genuinely proud of every single one. From providing period supplies in staff bathrooms, to raising awareness and education around women’s health and domestic violence, to financial wellbeing sessions that explore the realities of transitioning into motherhood — physically, mentally, financially, and professionally.

I’m also really proud of how the network is now extending its reach beyond SG Fleet, supporting women in our broader communities. Whether it’s sponsoring women’s football teams or collaborating with women's networks from other organisations to build a wider community, it’s exciting to see that impact grow.

Looking ahead

What are your hopes or goals for the Women’s Network in the next 12 months?

I’m excited to support Genevieve and Karen as we continue to grow the network both within SG Fleet and externally. We already have some great initiatives lined up, and I can’t wait to see them come to life. These will help amplify and strengthen our message and the impact we’re making.

I’m looking forward to working closely with the network and sharing the amazing work happening every day across our sites and offices.

How do you see the network making a difference for women at SG Fleet and beyond?

I see the network making a difference through both small and big changes. The small changes include the everyday initiatives and awareness we share on our intranet hubs and through events. These help educate not just women, but men too, about the daily hurdles women face — many of which they may not even realise.

It’s not about blame, but about awareness. Things like being called “girls” instead of “women,” or apologising only to women when swearing in a meeting (not that I encourage swearing!) — these are subtle things that can feel exclusionary. Addressing these nuances can make a real difference in how women experience the workplace day-to-day.

On a larger scale, I know this network will continue to achieve incredible things. It already has, and it’s only going up from here. The more we work together, the more we can achieve. We’re lucky to have strong support from SG Fleet, which helps fund our initiatives and allows us to invest in moments that truly matter.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting involved in the network?
Get in! Many hands make light work. It’s an incredible group of people, and everyone is here to support each other.

We do it because we want to, and while I take part on top of my day job, it’s something I’m genuinely passionate about. I love working with Gen, Karen and the rest of the network, and I’d encourage anyone thinking about it to jump in and be part of something really special.
