Celebrating resilience, community and the Wedge-Tailed Eagles

The SG Fleet Women's Network (SGWN), we're proud to support organisations that embody resilience, inclusion and the power of community. That's why our ongoing partnership with the Wedge-Tailed Eagles Women's Football Club is one that means so much to us.

Formerly known as the Kyneton Women's Football Club, the team has become a symbol of determination and perseverance after navigating a challenging journey to secure their place on the field. Following their departure from their former club amid concerns around inequitable treatment and culture, the team spent more than a year fighting for the opportunity to continue competing. After being denied entry into multiple leagues, the group rallied community support, advocated for change, and ultimately secured a place in the Central Victorian Football League under a new identity: the Wedge-Tailed Eagles Football Club.

While the outcome was a positive one, it didn't come without challenges. The players, coaches and volunteers remained united throughout the process, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and empowering environment for women in community sport. Their story resonated far beyond one football club, sparking broader conversations around participation, inclusion and equity in grassroots sport.

As a Platinum Sponsor of the Wedge-Tailed Eagles, SG Fleet is proud to play a small role in supporting a club that has shown such extraordinary resilience.

Recently, SGWN Co-Chair Tayla Grauf attended the club's 2026 Presentation Night alongside SG Fleet representatives, where the season's achievements were celebrated and players, coaches, volunteers and supporters were recognised for their contributions.

Reflecting on the evening, Tayla said what stood out most was the incredible sense of community that exists throughout the club.

"You could tell throughout the evening that the players put a lot of heart and soul into the club. There was such a strong sense of connection between the players, coaches, leadership team, volunteers and sponsors. It was a genuinely welcoming and inspiring environment to be part of." Reflecting on the evening, Tayla said what stood out most was the incredible sense of community that exists throughout the club.

As part of SG Fleet's sponsorship, we were proud to sponsor the Coaches' Award, which recognises the commitment, attitude and contribution that helps make a team successful both on and off the field. Tayla had the honour of presenting the award to this season's recipients alongside the club's coaches.

The evening served as a powerful reminder that success isn't always measured by wins and losses. Sometimes it's measured by the ability to overcome adversity, stand up for what matters and build something stronger in the process.

The Wedge-Tailed Eagles have done exactly that.

We would also like to thank Mark McEwan, Community Partnerships Manager at the Wedge-Tailed Eagles, for his kind words following the event and for the warm welcome extended to our team.

As we look ahead to the future, we're excited to continue supporting the club and the incredible women who make it what it is today.

Congratulations to all players, coaches, volunteers and supporters on a fantastic 2026 season. We look forward to seeing what comes next for the Wedge-Tailed Eagles.
