A little bit about Rebecca and her career journey
What inspired you to pursue your career journey at SG Fleet?
What inspired me to pursue my career journey at the company was seeing that if I was willing to put myself out there, learn, and take on new challenges, opportunities would follow. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to work with some incredible people who have supported, challenged, and encouraged me along the way. The relationships I've built over the years have been memorable, and it's the people and culture that have made SG Fleet such a rewarding place to grow my career.
What key leadership experience has defined the way you lead?
Leading teams through several system migrations, both at LeasePlan and SG Fleet, has been one of the most defining leadership experiences of my career. These projects required people from different teams to come together, adapt to change, and stay focused on delivering to our customers. What stood out to me was the willingness of everyone to work together to get the job done. As a leader, I've always believed in getting in the trenches with my team and supporting them wherever needed. Those experiences reinforced for me that effective leadership isn't about hierarchy; it's about influence, communication, trust, and leading by example. When people feel supported and understand the shared goal, they will go above and beyond to achieve great outcomes for customers.
What advice would you give your younger self who is starting out their career?
My advice to my younger self would be to not wait for all the answers before taking the next step. Put yourself outside your comfort zone, be curious, and back yourself to have a go. If there's something you want to learn or understand, get out into the business and ask questions. Some of the most valuable opportunities in my career have come from following those "rabbit holes" of curiosity, which often led me down paths I never expected and opened up new chapters in my career. I’d also tell my younger self not to be intimidated by senior leaders. Early in my career, I felt like I couldn't approach people because of their position. What I've learned is that most leaders are happy to share their knowledge and experiences if you're willing to ask. Building those relationships and learning from others can accelerate your growth more than you realise.
Rebecca’s involvement with the Women’s Network
What excites you the most about SGWN?
What excites me most about SGWN is the opportunity to give back by helping others build their confidence, expand their networks, and develop their careers. Throughout my own journey, I've benefited from people who were willing to share their knowledge and support my growth, so being able to create those opportunities for others is something I find really rewarding. I'm also excited to work with a committee that brings so much energy and so many great ideas. I think that combination of passion, collaboration, and a bit of fun is what makes a group like SGWN successful.
What does the women’s network mean to you personally and professionally?
Personally, the Women's Network means creating opportunities for people to connect, learn, and build their confidence. Throughout my career, I've benefited from people who took the time to share their knowledge, support my development, and encourage me to step outside my comfort zone. Being part of a network that helps create those opportunities for others is something I'm passionate about. Professionally, it provides a platform to learn from different experiences, build relationships across the business, and support the development of current and future leaders. It's an opportunity to bring people together, share ideas, and help create an environment where everyone feels empowered to grow and succeed.
Looking ahead
What are your key priorities for SGWN in FY27?
Our FY27 theme is ELEVATE: Aligning Ambition with Opportunity, and my key priority is to create meaningful opportunities for our people to learn, connect, and grow. I'd like to bring more external speakers into the business to provide fresh perspectives and education on a range of topics, both professional and personal. I also want to create more networking opportunities across the organisation, helping people build relationships, share experiences, and learn from one another. Just as importantly, I want SGWN to be engaging and enjoyable. Professional development doesn't always have to be formal, so I'd like us to create opportunities to have some fun along the way while continuing to foster a supportive and inclusive community. If we can help people expand their networks, build their confidence, and connect ambition with opportunity, then we'll have achieved our goal of truly elevating our people.
What is a topic you’re particularly passionate about sharing in SGWN?
One topic I'd love to champion through SGWN is volunteering. While it's often viewed as giving back to the community, I also see it as an important opportunity for personal and professional growth. Volunteering can help build confidence, leadership skills, and resilience while allowing us to contribute to causes we care about. I'd like to help raise awareness of volunteering opportunities and inspire others to get involved, because even small contributions can have a significant impact.
How would you align the network goals with the company's diversity, equity & inclusion objectives?
I believe the Women's Network plays an important role in supporting the company's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion objectives by creating opportunities for people to learn, connect, and develop. By providing access to education, networking events, and diverse perspectives, we can help ensure people feel supported and empowered to reach their potential. The network can also create a platform for meaningful conversations, raise awareness of different experiences, and encourage greater understanding across the business. For me, it's about aligning ambition with opportunity. We want to help create an environment where everyone feels they belong, has access to development opportunities, and can see a pathway for growth. By fostering connection, visibility, and inclusion, SGWN can positively contribute to the company's broader DEI goals while supporting both individual and business success.
