SG Fleet is a long-standing major sponsor of Northern Rescue, the specialist air ambulance and rescue helicopter service that serves the Northern region of New Zealand: Northland, Auckland, and the Coromandel.
While Northern Rescue is best known for its helicopters, we are proud to support its operations with a fleet of vehicles, including Rapid Response Vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with lifesaving technology, providing critical care to patients and supporting the ground operations of the rescue helicopter service.
The dedication of the crew and frontline team, and their commitment to the community, is truly inspiring. We are honoured to have supported these lifesaving services since 2009.
Meet Northern Rescue
Northern Rescue brings together two rescue helicopter services – the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) and Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (ARHT).
In 2018, the Government introduced a three-region model – Northern, Central, and Southern – to ensure a consistent, reliable rescue helicopter service across New Zealand. In response, NEST and ARHT formed a new joint venture to create Northern Rescue.
Responding to more than 2,000 missions each year, Northern Rescue provides lifesaving assistance to people across New Zealand’s upper North Island, often in some of the region’s most challenging environments.
At the core of Northern Rescue’s service is a fleet of eight helicopters capable of reaching people in remote, difficult, and time-critical situations. From winch rescues and accident responses to inter-hospital transfers and search and rescue, the aircraft allow the Northern Rescue crew to deliver advanced clinical care wherever it’s needed.
Northern Rescue’s ground fleet and Rapid Response Vehicles
Alongside the rescue helicopter fleet, Northern Rescue operates Rapid Response Vehicles (RRVs) from both their Whangārei and Ardmore bases.
These vehicles play a vital role in supporting aeromedical operations. They enable Northern Rescue to respond locally when flying isn’t an option, deliver urgent care on the ground, respond rapidly to nearby incidents, and provide seamless support to rescue helicopter missions.
Equipped with lifesaving technology, they bring the capabilities of a mobile emergency room directly to the scene. Each RRV is outfitted with essential critical care equipment, including monitors, ventilators, LUCAS devices, ultrasound, syringe drivers, and oxygen. This level of capability can significantly improve a patient's chances of survival and recovery.
